Spindle Recommendations

I have a Wabeco 1210E mill which is limited to about 3000rpm. I would like to add on a high speed spindle for milling pcbs and engraving. Any recommendations?

Hello pdyer,

Have a look at a Proxxon high-speed tool as a good starting point.
Here is one mountable on a different brand mill. These are definitely not Dremel type tools, they are higher quality and more precise.

Thanks for joining here at the new forum.

Yes I did wonder about Proxxon but I haven't seen any data about either runout or more particularily how long they can be run without overheating - Anyway I think I'll give one a try

Hi Peter,

I saw 0.001" mentioned as the run-out, that may have been on the Little Machine Shop site.
I have seen several commercial machines that use them. The machines are for drilling eye-glass lenses for mounting screws. Not as demanding as pcb routing, but people in the optical industry are picky.
I used my Dremel clone yesterday to drill small holes in a cabinet. I couldn't believe the run-out. No need for a dial-test indicator.

There is also a company called Wolfgang Engineering that sells spindles on e-bay. I only mention that so your decision won't be too easy smiling smiley

Regards,
JJ

If your budget allows it... check cncteknix website.. They have a 24000RPM spindle which seems like reasonable value for money as spindles go.
